The Machars of Galloway are an anglers paradise with game, course and sea fishing in abundance. Indeed Luce Bay is the most popular sea fishing venue in Scotland.
The waters of Luce Bay, Wigtown Bay and the Solway Firth hold a veritable plethora of sea fish, with the Gulf stream sweeping in to Luce Bay, you can never be sure what you can catch next. Basking Shark, Tope, Bull Huss, Thornbacks and other rays, Minke Whales, Leatherback turtles, occasional Fin Whales, and Orcas visit the bay.
In summer huge shoals of mackeral arrive, with predators in hot persuit!! Watch for the Gannets diving.
From the shore there are many good marks, Monreith and Garlieston for Bass, Port William Harbour for Lesser Spotted Dogs, Cod, Pollack, and Mullet.
